Fossil-Fuel Free Home Renovation Tour

Thinking of getting your house off of fossil fuels and making it a Zero-Carbon home? Wondering how that can be done?

Come visit this  102 year old Victorian semi and see for yourself what a beautiful, healthy fossil-fuel free home is like.

Led by Architect Daniel Hall, the team of The Architect Builders Collaborative, Bluegreen Consulting Group, Bowser Technical Services, and Scottwood Construction have transformed this typical old Toronto brick house into an elegant and highly efficient modern home. The house features plenty of natural daylight, good ventilation, exposed brick accent walls, and an impressive 1.97 ACH(50) airtightness.

The design provides for flexibility in how the house can be used as the Owner’s family needs change, and includes a bright, modern rental suite with radiant heat and an ERV. The entire house is heated and cooled with state-of-the-art electric powered air-water and air-air heatpumps from Ontario’s Ecologix. Hot water takes advantage of excess heat through heat-pump tanks and de-superheaters.

The house has been wrapped with a blanket of insulation and new cladding that was optimized for value and performance with detailed energy modelling.

The design team took advantage of being able to work with the attached neighbours house to unify the appearance of the houses, restoring some of the original front facade and avoiding creating that all-too-common beast – the ‘Frankensemi’

The interiors are flooded with natural light and fresh air. The rear of the house opens up entirely to seamlessly connect with the back garden oasis.

The Owners, Architect, and Builder will be on hand throughout the day on Saturday to offer tours and answer any questions you might have about fighting climate change with great green design.

See you there!
